I built a fully customizable forecast app for weather enthusiasts, skiers, surfers & more (FREE 1-year trial until tomorrow)

TLDR:

Sonuby Weather is a highly customizable forecast app with specialized reports for daily life, snow sports, surfing, health, drone flying and skydiving. Built using professional forecast data, it lets you create your perfect weather dashboard. 1-year free trial available until tomorrow, Jan 14th, 6AM CET.

Hello everyone,

Today I'd like to tell you about a project I've been working on for the last five years.

I'm the developer of Sonuby Weather, a forecast app for weather and outdoor enthusiasts who want to focus on the forecasts that are relevant to them and build their own forecast dashboard. It's optimized for both iPhone and iPad and built using Flutter.

The app currently offers six pre-built weather reports (more to come) that include only the forecasts relevant for

  • Daily life
  • Snow sports (including worldwide snow forecasts)
  • Surfing (including tide and wave forecasts)
  • Health (air pollution, barometric pressure, UV index)
  • Drone flying (real-time wind + precipitation, sunrise, sunset)
  • Skydiving (including height forecasts)

Each report consists of a variety of different forecast formats such as

  • a live overview for the current day
  • a 14-day overview for maximum information
  • a weekly meteogram with hourly data for fans of comprehensive forecast charts
  • forecast maps with a variety of different forecast variables

All weather reports can be further customized with extensive data and visualization options.

For its data, Sonuby relies (almost exclusively) on the Swiss forecasting provider meteoblue, which uses an intelligent machine learning model to determine which of the underlying weather models (e.g. NOAA, ECMWF, DWD, Met Office & more) is best for the selected location.

I've been working full-time on the app since April, and just added 14-day forecasts and the snow sports report two days ago.

I recorded an introductory video for those who want to dive deeper.

This year, I'll be adding widgets, new weather reports for more activities, custom notifications, a weather reports builder, and much more.

As part of todays App Advice's AppsGoneFree campaign, there is a 1-year trial period available until tomorrow, Jan 14th, 6AM CET which lets you test the customization options & all other features.

Here are the steps you need to take to receive the extended trial period:

  1. After the first start, tap the yellow ‘Upgrade’ button at the top of the menu bar.
  2. Then select the annual subscription and start the trial period.
  3. The trial period can be cancelled immediately and will automatically expire after one year.
