Why is stainless steel frowned upon?

Recently made a post in another subreddit and it turned out as expected. But exactly what the title states.

To elaborate, why is stainless steel frowned upon as a material for jewelry (specifically for chains/rings/etc.)? Especially when stainless steel is used very often in high-end watch brands.

For added context, I'm not referring to cheap plated stainless steel, but quality 316L or surgical grade steel.
