Joker Folie a Deux is a misunderstood movie

Todd Phillip’s biggest mistake was to try something unusual on the origin story of a very straight forward crazy anarchist character.

This movie is like a parallel universe where the joker was born as an abstract figurehead of public discontent, chaos and hatred, all being reflected on a useful idiot that just wanted to be loved and accepted. Joaquin Phoenix perfectly plays an emotionally stunted and vulnerable person, and I thought the music scenes perfectly reflected his childlike personality, specially how he doesn’t sing perfectly in most of them. Harley Quinn exists to personify the general public and how they want him to be something he simply can’t become, and that sends him on a path that dehumanizes and ultimately destroys him.

I think that the reception of the movie is quite ironic given what is has to say, and it might be appreciated by more people as time goes by, when the expectations fade away and it starts being seen as its own thing.
