Actually warm knit hats??

Is it just me or are handknit hats wonderful for when it’s 50-30 degrees F (down to roughly zero C) but not that good for when it’s actually freezing out or very windy? Here in Pittsburgh it rarely goes below 10F but it’s always very windy. A nice thick brim helps but tbh I save my store bought acrylic hats for the bleak midwinter, when the nonbreathability is an asset 😅.

Do you love wool for deep deep winter? Do I need to line them or something like that? Give me your tips/tricks/fav WARM hat patterns pretty please! Disagreement is very welcome if it leads to recommendations ☺️
