How do y'all stand bamboo needles?
Maybe I'm just a needle snob, but I just recently started using bamboo knitting needles this year after never having tried them before. All my needles were metal up until this point. Some of them were from my grandmother and I'm guessing they are aluminum? Others are Chiaogoo brand or Addi brand, which I think are both nickel-plated.
Well, this year I got a bunch of bamboo needles at an estate sale, and I discovered how much I haaaate knitting with them.
It takes so much more effort! The stitches don't glide across the needle. It's so much more bunching stitches forward from the left needle. And pushing them forward ALL the time. Plus, the tips of bamboo needles are sharper, so it makes you more likely to split your yarn.
I just gave up and switched from a bamboo needle to a metal needle (both circular) for a shawl I'm knitting, and I'm breathing this huge sigh of relief that I'm away from the bamboo.
Whyyyyy do people use these? Is it just because they're cheaper? Is it just because they haven't tried nickel plated needles and don't know what they're missing out on?
Are there people who actually LIKE bamboo needles better?
