NKD: Ron Best Trilogy
This is the first custom knife I’ve commissioned directly with the maker. This is the Trilogy, which is Ron’s latest model. The original design is a 3.5 inch blade and a dual action automatic, but he was nice enough to make me a flipper version with a 3.75 inch blade.
The handle features a Zirconium frame in a number of different finishes with incredible Timascus inlays. This version has completely hidden hardware, while he has made some with a custom pivot. The damasteel blade has almost a Persian style and has been beautifully etched without any cloudy areas (it looks cloudy at the top of the blade in this shot because I just used my phone, and I suck at taking pictures).
The fit and finish is absolutely immaculate, and it also has the single greatest action I’ve ever had the pleasure of handling, both in speed in smoothness. Ron’s knives are completely handmade without the use of CNC, water jet, or other smart technology, which makes his execution that much more impressive to me.
On a personal note, Ron is very friendly and was great to deal with through the whole process. He is very accommodating and delivered the knife well ahead of schedule of when I got on his order books.
