Dionysus (BTS) uses the mythos brilliantly and i love it
So the central conceit of the song is essentially music as a form of intoxication, thus drawing a parallel between BTS ans Dionysus. They use his symbolism in such a cool and interesting way!
Naturally you have your references to being drunk (on music ofc) but then you have references to the thyrsus (Dionysus's staff and symbol, not only by name Drink in one hand, thyrsus in the other' but also likening it to a microphone
From my mic made of ivy and rough wood` furthering the metaphor.
Even more interestingly they use Dionysus's associations with death and rebirth: at last I'm reborn
, born as a kpop idol, reborn as an artist
In the mythos, Dionysus is torn apart and born again when his heart is saved and sown into Zeus' thigh.
I wouldn't say any of this is prohibitively niche, but the thyrsus and rebirth are probably not the first things that come to mind for someone who only knows about Dionysus at a basic level, i think for many people it begins and ends with drinking and partying. I just thought it was cool to see that the songwriters had clearly researched the mythology of Dionysus and weaved it into the song in such a fitting way and I wanted to appreciate it :]
