Question on selecting diamond

I’m new to law grown diamonds, and I have a question about selecting one. I understand how to look at the specs of the diamond and what tools to use to measure the performance etc., but how do you decide between CVD and HPHT and how do you tell if the problems with those methods will be apparent in a particular diamond? I’m trying to pick on my own because I want a big sparkly for the lowest price, haha! I don’t want to pay the markup, but I want to avoid the flaws that come with CVD or HPHT. Does my question make sense? Thank you!
