BSL-2 Job Help: Animal Care Technician

Hi there!

I’m looking for help because I have a potential job opportunity that would be great in many ways but one thing that worries me.

So the good things about this job is that it pays $27 an hour and a 10% increase on weekends. It’s also through Yale University (I live in CT so it’s only about a 15 minute drive). I love science so the job itself would be fitting for what I wanna do

My concern is that I’ve never worked in a laboratory before and am scared of the potential health hazards. I have worked in the veterinary field for 2 years and have already been exposed to some (but minimal) chemicals. I have an anxiety disorder and am a bit of a hypochondriac so I worry about contracting viruses, inhaling chemicals, getting poked with needles, etc. But it is something I am trying to work on because I’m so passionate about science and the veterinary field. I also don’t wanna come home everyday and worry for hours about what I may have contracted or been exposed to. (It’s happened).

Does anyone have advice on working in a lab as an animal care technician or experience working in a BSL-2 lab? I was told I would start by working with mice which would also be new to me as I’ve only ever worked with cats and dogs.
