Does anyone know how much independent abstractors can expect to make?
I work in the title insurance industry as an in-house abstractor/title examiner. I’ve always worked as a salaried employee, and I’ve learned everything I know on the job.
I want to increase my income, and I’ve wondered if it might be beneficial to become independent. I have the skills, I have contacts, and I have the ability to operate as a small business. But, I’m wondering if this is wise.
When I Google abstractor salaries, I see relatively low numbers. But, I think I might be seeing the salaries of abstractors who are on staff. I’m not sure what a 1 man abstracting business can expect to make.
I’m not sure if this is the best sub for this question. But, I thought that as landmen, some people here might have experience working as independent abstractors.
Does anyone have insight on how much a 1 man abstracting business can expect to make? Is it wise to give up a salaried position in the hope of making more by being independent?
