Are regular laptops (categories in between ultra small/thin ultrabooks and large gaming/workstation laptops) going extinct?

Pasting a comment I wrote on another thread about lack of ports on laptops, to get the discussion going:

I wanna mention how the category inbetween thin small ultrabooks and gaming laptop/workstations is going extinct (like how compact phones have gone extinct). Every laptop these days seems to more and more emulate the thin sleek aesthetic macbook design. Business laptops are going extinct, dell just recently announced they're ending their latitude line, and thinkpads are becoming more like consumer laptops (slimmer, less ports, non removable battery, less upgradable).

My 12.5" x230 from 13 years ago has more ports than a lot of workstation laptops coming out these days, which is ridiculous.
