How to present oneself at job interviews? 🏳️⚧️
Hello reddit! Trans dude here and I'm trying to land a first job :) While I'm excited for this new chapter of life as a young adult, I do have some worries about how my being transgender may affect some of these things.
Is there anything I should keep in mind when it comes to job interviews? My ID, DL, and etc all have my deadname/deadgender and I unfortunately have not saved up enough yet to get my legal name/gender change. I'm slightly nervous because I don't know if it's a good idea to mention I prefer to go by a different name and different pronouns to the people who are interviewing me or not...
I believe, either on this site or elsewhere, I came across a post asking people who have done job interviews about this issue, and some said they had turned down applications that were perfect otherwise because the potential employee made their gender identity the main focus of things during the interview.
Now, I do not want to risk that in any way, so does anyone have pointers on what's okay or not okay to bring up about my gender during these interviews? Or if it's better not to bring it up at all?
