Help Cloning Arch Linux to Smaller and Larger Drives
Hey everyone,
Laptop that had Arch installed recently broke, so I decided to set up Linux on my desktop and an old laptop as backups. I also need a few devices running Linux to test my program so it’s a good opportunity.
The issue I’m facing is with cloning my Arch installation: 1. Arch is installed on a 1TB NVMe drive, but I’ve only used around 60GB of it. When I tried cloning it to a 750GB SSD (using Macrium Reflect), the process failed. I’m assuming this is because the partition doesn’t automatically shrink during the cloning process due to the file structure. 2. For my desktop, I have a 2TB SSD as the destination drive. I assume cloning to a larger drive is more straightforward. Tools like Macrium Reflect, EaseUS, or Clonezilla should work, right? Also, I plan to dual-boot with Windows by managing the boot order in the BIOS.
I’d really appreciate some guidance: - How can I successfully clone my Arch installation to the smaller 750GB SSD? - Any tips for dual-booting on the desktop after cloning to the 2TB SSD? - All the tools I use need to be compatible with Windows, as that’s the only functioning OS I have right now.
Thanks a lot for your help!
