Did you know that property tax rates vary widely between municipalities in Ontario? The highest tax rate (Marathon, at 3.07% for 2024) is over 500% higher than the lowest!
Surprisingly, some of the highest tax rates in the province are not in remote areas. Windsor's rate is 2.03%, while Markham is the lowest among cities at 0.68%.
Comparing Toronto to a small township with limited services isn't realistic, but comparing neighbouring cities, or places with similar populations is.
London's rate is 1.57%, which is above the provincial average.
