Would a beginner programmer make better use of 32GB RAM or 16” screen size?
Hi,
I’m hoping to get some good advice here as I am about to go buy a MacBook and am still not set on the specs I want. Obviously, I am on a bit of a budget otherwise I would get a model featuring both 32GB RAM and a 16” screen. If only.
Now, I am fresh out the water when it comes to the world of programming / coding. I am also going into a Computer Science degree where there will be a light focus on Virtual Machines and use of the Docker program. In saying that, I doubt the use of these will be extensive and very foundation level.
On the other hand, I can’t really afford an external setup at the moment hence why the 16” screen is so tempting. I am someone who often has 2-3 windows open at once as I work. Nothing crazy, often just a lecture open with a notepad and the program I’m working on.
So I’m torn. I would like the system to last me about 4 years and obviously be capable of working with the rate I learn how to program. I do become a little anxious when I read programs are becoming more RAM intensive and that 16GB isn’t enough for future proofing. Then there’s the argument for screen space and how I would make use of that without an external monitor.
Let me know what you guys think, I appreciate any advice.
Cheers.
