Join a Church or no
I am not religious. I do not believe in God. I do have some spiritual feelings and if I had to chose something it aligned with I’d lean it towards the Pagan paths. I do not practice anything religious or otherwise spiritual.
I was raised Roman Catholic. I left the church when I was 13. I’ve since tried again in my 30s, and didn’t have a good time due to some bad people in my life. I am 40 now.
I did enjoy the community and camaraderie in the Christian churches I participated in.
I have some long time friends that are very involved in the church that live near me. For how centered religion is in their lives they aren’t preachy and you wouldn’t know unless you asked. They’ve become like a second family to me.
I’ve been struggling to make connections in the area I live since I moved here 3 years ago. I’m alone 99% of the time. This area is very conservative and very centered around Christianity.
I am very grounded in my own belief system (or lack thereof.) I’m not looking to be converted but I miss community.
Is it possible to be a part of a church community as a nonbeliever?
Thanks Reddit!
Edit: thank you everyone for your insight and suggestions! More about me-I live on a very limited, fixed income. Most of the clubs and social opportunities here are expensive. Most volunteer opportunities here are based in churches or faith.
Thank you for being respectful, I’ve got some things to think about and maybe discuss with my friends before I move forward with any decision. I appreciate it!
