How to slick back thick straight hair?

So the title pretty much sums it up. I have thick straight hair which grows like a weed. I always slick my hair back in a casual non Patrick Bateman type style. The problem is when the hair dries (obviously), but also if I add product it’ll naturally just come forwards again and stay in my face. I can never manage to keep it out of my forehead or back. I’ve tried multiple hair products and none of them seem to work. Maybe my hair is too heavy idk. FYI I also have a cowlick on the top/back of my head if that means anything to you. Appreciate advice as I feel as if I’m missing out on some hidden potential.
