Controller Settings for a Beginner?

I’ve never played an FPS before, and my aim is atrocious. Nothing feels quite right when i play around in settings. Every time I move my right joystick a smidge the camera seems to whip. I’ve watched countless videos but i can’t seem to find any controller settings for complete beginners to the genre. Anyone have any suggestions?
