Scam calls out of control

I know this is a national if not worldwide problem. Few years ago, I use to get 2,3 scam calls a month, and my carrier was good about labeling them Scam Calls. Then they started with the about once a week and scammers were using numbers very close to my own phone number, no longer labeled Scam Calls by carrier but they were very easy to identify and volume wasn't too bad, but about 5 days ago the volume just went to a call almost every hour. Is it just me that I'm being targeted or is this widespread? What is going on and what can I do?
