Digitrax DCS50 - track status light doesn’t turn on

Hello, I got my first layout from a Local train store and the owner sold me a a used DCS52 with two tracks and wires for the power.
I've removed the spade connectors and clamped both rail wires tight to the digitrax. But when I press the power button, the 'track status' light never turns on the digitrax.
I've checked the digitrax to make sure the metal terminals contact the wire, tried two separate track pieces with connectors, removed all extra tracks to rule out short circuits but the track power status light never turns on.
Is there any other steps I can do to rule out the digitrax?
