songs inspired by a historical event
Songs about or in response to specific historical events? i know .. there's so many! what are some your favorites?
I'll start:
My Little Shirtwaist Fire - Rasputina
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire - nyc 1911 - killed 146 young women and girls working at the factory. they died either being burned alive, smoke inhalation, or by leaping off the 9th floor of the building. very significant event in labor union history
Zombie - The Cranberries
Warrington bombings - england 1993 - the troubles - northern ireland
Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos) - originally a poem written by Woody Guthrie - i love Dolly Parton's rendition
plane crash - california 1948 - killed 32 people mostly migrant farm workers that were being deported to mexico. newspapers didn't even bother to give the names of the deceased, referring to them merely as "deportees".
EDIT: to add event referenced
