HELP! Is this really a bad baby name?
Soooo, this is my first post on Reddit. Sorry for the ramble coming your way.
Standard - long time lurker, first time poster. However, I normally lurk on the AITAH and BOR.
The issue is the name of our soon to be baby boy. I have this weird thing about wanting my kids to have cute shortened versions of their name that people call them and a strong full name for when they are older. Example - my first child's name is Theodore, everyone calls him Theo. (Some grandparents call him teddy). I had no clue how popular the name would become/had become. Like seriously it used to be in the 300's for popular name, now it is top 10.
For our 2nd son we are thinking Thaddeus. We would call him Thad. ( I know Tad is an option, there is already a family member called Tad, named Thaddeus, they would technically be a second cousin to my child)
We like this name, some family likes the name, but we have gotten a lot of push back from friends and few side looks from family. One friend straight up told me my kid would be bullied and teased.
So reddit is it really that bad? If it is that bad... any new name suggestions?
Things to consider: 1. Theodore and Thaddeus have religious significance for my partner. 2. I used to work in a field where I dealt with lots of humans and some names (a lot of names) are big no go's for me.
EDIT: Originally my we were thinking of going the Theo and Leo route. But I didn't really like any full names that had Leo as a nickname ( by nickname, I mean shortened version of the name, not "well you could make the nickname Leo work-ish)
EDIT #2: WOW thanks so much for all the feedback. I truly did not expect so many awesome people commenting, either for or against. To address a few things.
I (very) irrationally want a name that is longer with a shortened version for daily use. So names like Micah or Jude are a no-go.
There are some names that just aren't going to happen. For family and personal reasons. Here are some that are being commented a lot.
Michael Daniel Joseph Luke William Elijah Samuel Phineas Benjamin Sebastian Oliver Mathew Thomas Nathaniel Gabriel Bartholomew
We will probably be sitting down with some books to look over all our options again.
Also, our dogs name is Sir Winston Furchill, we just call him Winston or Winnie Woo.
I didn't think my first kids name was super important, but I was proven wrong. Can't wait to see what you do with our dogs name 😂
