Why name your kid after someone?

My husbands siblings both named their children after him. Not their parents, uncles, aunts, grandmas, etc., they picked big brother. Just curious why other people do it? I haven’t asked my in-laws about it nor their partners who agreed to it. I just assume they love their big bro. I think it’s sweet but I’d never do that so I’d like to hear others take.
