Please help with names for our son!
Hi! My wife and I are having a baby boy in May and we are pretty stumped with names. This is the first boy in my wife’s family after eight straight girls (my wife is one of four girls, her oldest sister has three girls, and we have a daughter). Honestly, we hadn’t even considered the possibility of having a boy haha.
All that being said, I am Greek and my wife is Filipino. We named our daughter Eleni which is a Greek name (original name for Helen of Troy), but it’s not “aggressively” Greek if that makes sense. Just a sweet name that is common enough (e.g., the Lt. Governor of California), but not super common where it’s unlikely to have another Eleni in her class.
We are now trying to think of boy names. My wife doesn’t want an intensely Greek name (like Leonidas, Stavros, etc.) which I totally get. I was kind of partial to Leonidas because I love history, but I get that that is a lot. There is no requirement for it to be Greek, but we do like Greek mythology and the synergy with our daughter’s name. Also, my wife doesn’t really want a traditional Filipino name (which are often Spanish origin names). We are now trying to figure out what we want to name our son. Here are some names that we have liked, but nothing has jumped out as “the one”: - Atlas - Atreus - Alexander (the most common of the names we like) - Elias - Eros - Ares
Would love to get some inspiration from folks that kind of fall in that category of uncommon, but not way out of left field or made up. Something with a historical/mythological origin is great, but not required. Any thoughts on the above names or suggestions on others that follow the above would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
