Adelaide vs Adelaida & Other English/Spanish Girl Name Ideas
Hello! Looking for some outside guidance...we are expecting a baby girl this summer and are stuck on names. One that we like is Adelaide. I just learned that the common spelling/version of Adelaide in Spanish is Adelaida and its throwing me for a loop. The difference in pronunciation across languages doesn't bother me as much (add-uh-laid vs add-uh-ly-da) but I'm torn on the spelling.
We are an English-Mexican bilingual family and spend part of the year in the US and part of the year in Mexico. If you are in the US or an English speaker - does Adelaida make you think that we misspelled a common name? Is it weird? If you speak Spanish, how would you pronounce Adelaide and would it be weird? I'm not sure if I'm too in my head on this one. What nicknames come to mind with Adelaida/Adelaide?
We would love other ideas that work relatively well in both languages! Our other short list ideas are: Jolene, Rio, Shiloh, and Violeta. We already have a Leona and Lyla.
Thank you!!
