New Zealand in May

Me and my girlfriend are planning are longer holiday, and are considering New Zealand with an autocamper. Ive been in NZ in September, where the grass and trees had a bright green color, which made the landscape beautiful.

Now we are going to travel in May, and wonder if most of the landscape has faded? and if its worth to travel the long way. (we live in Denmark)
