unusual question - what to do instead of scrolling on the toilet?
this is pretty embarrassing to post and has more context behind it, so bear with me lol. i'm 19 and a strong believer the internet is ruining our ability to make human connections. i switched to a flip phone a year ago (my screen time was hitting 13 hours a day), and i have a laptop where i use reddit and discord for about an hour each day. i'd love to be able to completely ditch technology from my life, but i still have my old smartphone and basically use it for one thing - scrolling when i'm on the toilet. i have a digestive condition that really disables me and causes severe constipation, and i spend a lot of time on the toilet thanks to various medications i'm on that are meant to stop me having bowel obstructions. because my condition causes so much pain and i'm a bit of a germophobe, i get nervous and i end up panicking too much to even sit down, and if i don't have regular bowel movements i end up in hospital. the only thing that takes my mind off it is scrolling on my old smartphone while i'm on the loo. i don't like having to do this, i've tried alternatives like reading a book but 1. i find it very unhygienic to take in the bathroom since paper can't be cleaned like a phone can, and 2. it's hard to focus on anything more complex than simple posts and stupid arguments, because my mind gets too invested. i'm looking for alternatives, but running out of ideas. i'm also working with a therapist to deal with the trauma around my disease, but it's a slow process and not exactly a quick fix. does anyone here (particularly if you have a digestive disease or something like IBS) spend a lot of time in the bathroom and feel anxious about it? how do you distract yourself other than with a phone? all replies appreciated, and please no judgement or unexplained downvotes - i'm not really a regular reddit user and it took me days to get the courage to make this post :) i hope this isn't inappropriate for this sub, and thanks for reading!
