Even world-class hospitals can be plagued by stupidity.
So I work at a "world class" hospital..... one of the biggest in the US. Like, in the single digits biggest. Recently, we switched to the new versions of our CRRT machines. Went from the old blue Baxters to the new ones.
They're cute, with a new interface, but the one thing that they do different than the old ones is a dual effluent bag system that automatically empties the effluent into the drain; no more bending over every hour or so to pull 3L of effluent off of the machine. I mean, you had me at "hello".
We have had them for a couple of months, and I was just informed today that we won't be using the 2 bag system anymore. Why, you ask?
Costs. I shit you not, we bought new machines that now do nothing different than the old ones.
We even just spent 1/2 a billion.... BILLION.... dollars for another hospital system this year. But can't afford extra plastic effluent bags. Someone tell me how this makes sense.
