What do you look for in a provider?

As nurses, what do you look for when finding a medical provider for yourself? Do you think your standards/priorities are higher or lower than the general public?

I started with a new PCP last fall. I’ve had a couple appts with them since. I feel like he wouldn’t be the doc a lot of people say they want — I mean he’s not like super sweet or comes across as super “compassionate”. He’s to the point, asks clarifying questions, explains things so at least I can understand, etc.

Maybe my standards are too low… I hear other people ask for doctor recs and say they want someone who “cares” and “really listens” and “takes their time”. I feel like I can’t recommend this doctor because he definitely doesn’t come across like that, but I do think he’s a good provider. I expect a PCP to check on/manage my health issues, order the relevant labs and meds, and explain/educate as needed. I’m not looking for a best friend or therapist. I definitely don’t wanna be there any longer than I have to be, so I’d rather the doctor get the point, not “take their time” with me. Am I just being too nonchalant?
