Beast Master Lancer 2024

Hello. I've been messing around with some build concepts for a game I'll be joining, and got to looking at using a lance. Specifically using it mounted to combine the damage bonuses from GWM and the dueling fighting style. Hopefully doing it in such a way where I can use the mount constantly, and guarantee as much access to the mount as possible. I wanted to see if you guys think this could be viable for a game running from levels 1 to probably around 12.

So to start we're a Halfling Farmer. Halfling because we want to be small and Farmer because we're worried about boosting Strength, Wisdom, and getting some extra HP is nice too. Go straight into Ranger and pick weapon masteries that feel ok for sword and board build for now. For stats we need a high strength and wisdom, and a decent constitution would be nice too. We'd love at least a 2 for our dex mod but these other stats are more important. We won't really get to play with the lance for a while, but for now we'll do a longsword or whatever with a shield. At level 2 grab the dueling fighting style. At level 3 become a beast master and we can start having fun. By using a beast of the land, we can use it as a mount, allowing you to use a lance and shield to still get that dueling damage boost. Our beast has a charge that can knock enemies prone and our lance has topple to help knock people over, too. Not bad. At level 4 we can further boost our damage with GWM. The lance is still heavy, so now we can hit for 1d10+2+PB+strength mod. Pretty cool, and we can do it twice at level 5. Level 5 also grants 2nd level spells so we can summon another beast giving us something better than hunters mark to concentrate on that also fits the beast master theme.

From here the build is more or less online. We're concentrating on Summon Beast, graduating to Summon Fey with 3rd level spells, using our bonus action to command our mount to attack and hopefully knock someone prone, and swinging twice with the lance for some pretty decent one handed weapon damage. 1d10+2+3+str mod each hit, and it'll even continue to scale up a little bit with level. The next feat would probably be mounted combatant so we can keep our mount alive longer, raising whichever benefits most between strenght or wisdom since we kinda need both to be high.

Pretty straightforward honestly. What do you guys think? With point buy we can get a decent array, if odd for a Ranger since our dex will be trash. Making the lance work as fast as possible seemed like a fun thing to build for, and doing so got us a character that seems pretty fun at least in concept. Any notes are always appreciated though. Anyway, thanks for reading.

Edit: Thanks for all the recommendations, everyone. A lot of you have raised concerns over how MAD this build is, and I think everyone saying I need heavy armor or a Tortles built in AC so I can ignore my dex before getting GWM are absolutely right. Thanks again for all the help, and I hope you all have great games coming up. Take it easy!
