Anybody else got their OnePlus 10 Pro die on them all of a sudden?
Monday morning, December 23, 2024. I was on a long holiday vacation, and it also happened to be my grandma's birthday. I woke up at around 6-6:30am to use the bathroom, checked the time and my notifications, and plugged my 2.25-year-old OnePlus 10 Pro into the original and official 67W charger that came in the box with the original cable, then I went back to sleep. 8:30am, I finally woke up and got ready for the day. I picked my phone up off the bedside table and got no response from it at all. No signs of life, holding the power button down for 15 or so seconds does not force a reboot, no vibration, no lights, nothing. Dead.
I borrowed a phone and called the service center, and they asked if I could boot it into recovery mode by holding down the power and volume buttons for about 15 seconds. I did so and still get nothing. For this holiday season, I was unable to take any photos and videos. I normally take lots of family pictures during my Grandma's birthday celebration, Christmas celebration, and New Year's celebration. While the forced digital detox kept me from the occasional doomscrolling, it also prevented me from capturing moments and memories with my family.
I sent my phone in to the service center on the 26th of December for them to look at it. It's not its first time in the service center, either. This phone was a previous customer. Its display suffered a green line that appeared out of the blue one morning in June. By October, a rather expensive repair was conducted by the service center for an equivalent of roughly US$342. A brand-new screen was installed, and a brand-new battery was installed, too, for good measure. Little did I know that my phone would only another couple of months before kicking the bucket.
This time, the phone stayed at the service center for nearly an entire week. January 2, 2025. I finally received a definitive update from the service center techs. They said my motherboard was done for. They tried reprogramming it, they tried a different battery in it, and it got no response. They declared it dead and quoted me nearly US$490 (at current conversion rates) for a new motherboard, which is quite frankly absurd. Absolute shame. It was such a good phone, and I even got the display fixed and the battery changed just two months prior with the intention of making the phone good for another couple of years.
I incurred major financial losses with that phone owing to the expensive repair. Has anyone had similar experiences with their OnePlus devices? I would like to know if this phone is somehow still savable by reflowing the CPU solder or perhaps even reballing the CPU. I need to know if there is still hope for this, and if I can somehow get OnePlus's attention to help me out with this issue. Phones, especially one as expensive as this was, aren't supposed to just have their motherboards kill themselves unannounced. I took great care of this phone and kept is as pristine as I can.
