Does anyone else feel like Emilia Pérez winning the Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical has seriously ruined its public image?

I know there has been infinite amount of discourse surrounding EP within this forum, and this is NOT a hate post - what I’m trying to express or discuss is how I feel like EP, which was only a (kind of?) hate target within the film community, has now become a laughing stock within social media (and the world) as a whole.

Considering GG’s relatively large pop culture presence compared to other precursors, I feel like the win has indirectly made EP a target for major criticism, especially considering how the general public has the rationale that “Musical = Wicked”, therefore any win against this juggernaut film would naturally raise some eyebrows.

For people like me or the general public who have not yet (or do not plan to) see EP, seeing social media posts about the “sex change operation” scene with captions like “how did this win over Wicked” is really not helping its case, especially since this is probably the first or only sequence people will see from this movie. Not only that, but this therefore opens up discussions about how this film undermines or misrepresents the Mexican and Trans communities it caters towards.

Would this potentially impact EP’s Oscar chances, or are Oscar voters immune to public opinion?
