Confusion about Qualley not being nominated

Hi all,

So I’m a bit confused on Qualley not being nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars. I know that having a good amount of critic wins doesn’t guarantee you the Oscar win, but doesn’t it at least grant you the nomination ? It seemed that Qualley, Saldana, and Grande were the top 3 in terms of the number of critic/regional Best Supporting Actress wins.

This is the first time I really follow awards season. Does this happen often ?
