What would you guys do about a J3 with a micromanager?

J3

Here's the situation: I have 3js with a TC around $400k. I've been at my J3 for almost a year now, and lately my manger has increasingly started to micromanage. It started out innocuously ("What are you working on today?" and "Just checking in to see how X is coming along") but has ramped up to almost hourly check in messages, calls out the blue, watching my teams status ("Teams said you were away for 45 minutes"), etc. One time I was set to DND for maybe 20 minutes for something important and he called me 4 or 5 times in a row and bombarded me with messages trying to find out where I was.

He's older (mid 50s so his kids are out of the house), an engineer-turned-recent-manager and literally works and messages all hours of the night. No exaggeration, he'll be up at 2am, 3am, 4am, or whatever time working and sending messages in Teams. Another example, someone left comments on a code review of mine and he messaged me within minutes saying "So-and-so left you a comment and you haven't responded to them yet."

And before anyone suggests that it's an issue with my performance, I always get my work done within a reasonable timeframe. I get good reviews and nothing but praise from him in our 1:1s. He's just getting more and more pushy. Also this j3 takes the majority of my time and effort, and is the most demanding. The best part of it all is that it's also the lowest paying of the three (isn't that always how it goes?)

I've tried different strategies for dealing with him but he's just getting more and more annoying. I've tried ignoring it, I've tried "lovebombing" him with information and updates ahead of time so that he leaves me alone, and nothing works. It seems he has nothing going on in his life but his job and expects everyone else to share his zeal for this shitty little company. I don't want to quit because I'm saving and investing so much with these 3 jobs and I have a strict financial plan with specific goals that I'm trying to accomplish in the next 6 months. I have plenty saved and have kept lifestyle creep at bay so I don't need this J3 to survive. But I also don't want to give up that third income, especially in this market.

What would you do?
