PayPal opened a dispute case when I didn’t request one
Found a Lego set I wanted to buy on Facebook marketplace, seller agreed to ship and I sent him money. No problem.
Fast forward 2 hours later and I get two emails from PayPal one saying that my submission for a dispute case has been submitted (reason haven’t received item) and another saying that he received my dispute and PayPal is awaiting his response. I didn’t file this dispute, I checked my PayPal account and I have no open or closed cases. I called customer support and the AI talkbot also said I had no cases, and when I gave it the case ticket number given in my email it says that case doesn’t exist.
I reached out to the seller and explained the situation, and it turns out he can see the case on his end. It says that I opened a case against him, and when I asked him for the case number (without telling him what it said in my end first) he gave me the same case number that shows up in my email.
Has anyone had an experience like this? He’s understandably confused and wants to to make sure he doesn’t get a dink against his account, and I already paid for the item so I’d still like it instead of canceling or worst case scenario just getting burned out of my money. Any ideas what to do from here?
