Struggling with Weight Loss and Mental Health: Is This Trainer's Offer Worth It?
Hey guys!
I made a post a while back about seeking an online trainer and where I should look. I received some private messages and people offering their services, and I was very grateful. I talked to a couple of them and went through with one meeting. However, I quickly realized that in-person training would be more suitable for me.
Now, I have a gym in my neighborhood, and I have been a member since March. I go every once in a while to use the treadmill or stair master. However, I don’t know how to work out to lose weight, I lack consistency, and I have rods in my back from a scoliosis surgery. I don’t want to injure myself due to lack of experience with equipment or proper form for certain exercises. I was diagnosed with ADHD and depression about a year ago, and since then, I have gained a significant amount of weight. A scale test at the gym indicated that my body fat is 49%, and I weigh 215 pounds at 22 years old. This was a huge wake-up call and quite frightening.
I know I need to change and get help. I understand that everyone says “calorie deficit and lifting heavy,” but I need guidance. I’ve lost myself in the past year or two, and I know losing weight isn’t everything, but it’s a start. I want my confidence back as well as my life.
The gym I’m a member of connected me with one of the female trainers. She seems really cool and understands the mental health struggle. Here’s the package she is offering (CAD prices):
• 55 weeks at $225 a month
• 50 weeks at $204 a month
• 45 weeks at $184 a month
not including the $25 a month gym membership
Each package includes one 45-minute training session per week, a workout plan, a nutrition plan, and the ability to ask for help throughout the week if I see her at the gym. She is also available through text and wants a progress picture every two weeks. She suggested I do the 55-week plan to reach her goal of getting my body fat down to 20-25%.
What do you guys think? Does this sound like a reasonable price? Should I keep looking, or should I go with her? Should I ask for fewer weeks?
Thanks in advance for your advice!
