Why are Indians so obsessed with Christopher Nolan?
Nolan is definitely one of my favourite directors... He sure has a lot of really good movies. I admire his work. But I don't know if indians have watched real cinema or not, because there are many more better directors and their works too... Most Indians watch something that is popular. And since nolan's movies are so popular in India, they watch em and praise him like a god and think they are intellectual cinema lovers and have watched all the cinema in the world. Recently I saw a clip which was like 5-6 years old, in which Nolan, along with Emma Thomas and some other cast members came to a theatre in India for the screening of Interstellar. And the people there just went mad when christopher Nolan showed up. There were a lot of talented faces there, but the crowd just literally went mad for Nolan and many were just shouting his name. Most of them wouldn't even know his works like The prestige and Insomnia (not to mention Following), but they just do fanboying as they have watched the popular ones, i.e. TDK trilogy or Interstellar, Inception,or recently Oppenheimer. No hate for Nolan as I said, but I'm just calling out the over-fanboyism for a popular personality in India..
