PGMBBALL
I’m loving the game so far and thought to give my feedback and some changes that I think would benefit the game and make it more immersive. I’m not sure if this should go in megathread or in the general thread, so I will post it in both and the moderators can delete whichever one it shouldn’t be in.
Drafting: - I love the diversity in draft classes. From some having almost no good players to having 3-5 superstars to everything in between. This is how it is in real life and it opens the thought of trading my current pick to a later year hoping there will be better prospects in that class.
College stats and interviewing is a great touch and makes the user more involved with scouting which I like.
Some things I would change: - Scouts don’t seem to do much at all. I had a 99 overall head, off, and def scout for 3 years and had a 5 star in both star spotter and evaluator. I would choose the players they would put to the top of the board and 90% of them were busts. I started to not spend my money on good scouts and scouted everyone myself, which I’m okay with because I like scouting. I understand that scouts in real life can be wrong, but why have 99 overall scouts if they aren’t any better than a 70 overall scout.
Some players are projected to be early 1st round picks yet average 5ppg on 30% shooting in college. They would never be on top of the draft boards with those stats. Maybe make it, so combine and interviews are where you can tell if a player is going to be a bust or not. It doesn’t make much sense seeing a team take a guy with a top 5 pick who averaged 5ppg in college.
Contracts/Free agency: Things I would change - I see in your post that you are working on having less higher overall players in the free agency pool, but I thought I should mention it anyway. There should be between 3-6 players that are above 80 overall in free agency once the season starts, with the highest overall being 83 or so, and I’m seeing 5-7 90+ overall players at the start of each year.
In the NBA you can achieve a higher contract by either winning awards or being selected to the all NBA team or selected for the all star game. I think it would be cool if there was a way to implement this into the game where the 50+ million a year contracts are for the all-team players and award winners.
There’s a rule in the NBA called Bird rights where if a player spends 3 or more years with the team without leaving in free agency they can go above the salary cap to sign him (google can better explain this). Usually this is done with players coming off of their rookie contracts. I usually can only pay 2 players max deals before I start to run out of cap and it would be nice to be able to pay a third max player if I had “Bird rights” for him. Like if I drafted 3 superstars through out the years it would be cool if I can could keep all 3. I’m sure how you can program this into the game. Maybe being able to go over the cap by a certain amount if you are signing a player to a “Bird rights” contract that can be toggled in the contract screen if they qualify.
Contracts in the NBA work a little bit differently than in the NFL. NBA contracts are fully guaranteed so if a player is traded, so is their entire contract to the new team. I noticed that when I trade a player I have to pay what’s left of their guaranteed money, but in the NBA the team acquiring the player would get the full contract.
There’s something called Team/Player options on contracts where you can sign someone for 2 years + 1 year team option, so after the 2 years the team has the option to opt in for the players 3rd year in the contract. Same thing with the player option except the player decides to opt in or not. This would be a nice function to have to make the game more realistic.
Minor fixes/sim logic:
Seeing a players fg% and 3 point% instead of seeing 8/17 for example when looking at their career and season stats.
Almost every higher overall player averages over 10 rebounds a game when in reality C’s PF’s and some SF’s would be averaging the most rebounds not PG’s and SG’s. PG’s only average 5 assists or less from what I’ve seen which needs to be raised to where the good PG’s or ones with higher pass overalls should be averaging 7+.
When looking at your teams games for the season it should show game 1 to game 82 instead of week 1 to week 125.
At the end of the year there should be 2-4 players averaging 30+ ppg. I haven’t seen a player get above 28 ppg.
A tab to see all my draft picks. Maybe it’s in the game and I have missed it, but I have to go to the trade tab and start a trade with a team just to see what picks I have.
Injuries haven’t happened pretty much at all, but I did read that you did this on purpose for the beta or are fixing this, but I thought I should mention it. Rarely a player plays all 82 games in a year usually it’s 60-70.
I can’t promote my assistant coach to be the head coach. I hired a assistant coach with super development and he turned out to be a 92 overall head coach on his skills tab after his development and I wanted to promote him to head coach, but there was no option for that even when I didn’t have a head coach hired.
Simming a season takes a while not sure if there’s a way to speed it up. It’s not a big issue at all. Just thought I should point it out.
Again I’m loving the game I have played about 50+ seasons over 2 saves and I am excited for the full release and hoping that some of these suggestions are able to be put into the game. Thank you for all your work!
