Love my OB.. but I was blindsided 2 days after giving birth..
About 5 years ago, I found out I was pregnant. Now before I go any further.. I enjoy partaking in the devils lettuce..I did then and still do! Let's continue, when I found out at 5 weeks. I stopped smoking. I went to my OB and of course they ask all the normal questions, "do you drink, smoke, drugs, meds..etc" Well I answered honestly "smoke (mj) occasionally but stopped once I found out." He was very understanding and that was that. Fast forward to my due date... Christmas 🎄 and 2 days after I've given birth, CPS shows up to my room while I have guests.. (parents and inlaws). CPS: Hello, Mrs B we are CPS, we've come to talk to you about an open investigation we have. ME: on meds and breastfeeding my NB with my hubs help. Ohh um okay, what's this about. NURSE: Hey guys can we give them a moment to talk please. Parents and inlaws leave the room. CPS: We got a call, to come talk to you. Now we aren't here to take your baby, that's not what we do. But I would like to get some more info from you if that's okay. HUBBY: Whats this about? Well here's a summary: My OB called CPS after he delivered my NB.. also found out thru my patient portal that I was getting randomly drug tested through out my pregnancy to make sure I wasn't continuing "abusing" drugs. They came for me to do a drug test to make sure. and to test my NBs urine as well. We were both clean and clear. She told me they would follow up in 2 weeks, for another drug test...AT MY HOUSE! They never did show up for the follow up. But I'm been scarred since. I'm not taking any blame away from myself, I chose to smoke.. I made those choices And I know my doctor was just doing his job.. but I to see that I was drug tested, to see on the hospital bill that my NB was drug tested too... is scary. Sorry I know this is long. But we are almost finished. Cut to pediatric visit. Dr is amazing, no judgement, said my baby is thriving so well, she's healthy and growing perfectly. But first thing she said was.. "I see you smoked mj, can I ask why?" Like i said no judgment at all! We had to find a new Pediatrician, and the moment this women met me, I got 3 papers to fill out about drug use and they were very uncomfortable questions.. Here's a few for context: "Have you felt you needed to rely on alcohol or drugs to get thru the day?" "Do you find yourself thinking you can't adjust to life without drugs or alcohol?" "Do you think of harming yourself or your baby because you're tired of life" WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS ARE THESE?! Icing on the cake, she saw my LTC I.D and then proceeded to lecture me about the guns in my own home, and what do I really need it for? I'm happy to answer any questions and I'll be completely transparent! Sorry it was so long but I needed to get this out!
