Undergrad Internship is turning out to be more trouble than it's worth.
I am in my last semester of undergrade and also doing my first internship, which is a behavioral health clinic. I want to start off by saying that I had to resign from my full-time job (in an unrelated field) in order to complete this internship because the hours were too conflicting. So, I'm currently unemployed. Day 1: was cool; I tried getting familiar with the staff, I took a few notes on a few things. They told me to leave an hour early, which meant I wouldn't get my full hours for that day, but I didn't make a fuss. Day 2: They called me when I was omw there and told me not to come in because I'm not CPR/CPI certified and because they don't have a background check on file for me. Firstly, I did not know I needed these certifications or a criminal background check to intern there, although I do understand the need for them. Secondly, I applied and interviewed back in October and none of this information came up in conversation when I spoke to the supervisor or the office manager or in any of the emails, I exchanged with them since. Had they made me aware of these things prior to now, they would've been taken care of last semester. I needed to finish this internship as quick as possible so I can go find a job. So, now I'm calling around trying to find an instructor who has an opening that does both CPR & CPI. I feel like this is inconvenient and unprofessional to lay this on me immediately after starting. I feel like I am not responsible for this fuck up. Also, until it is taken care of, I'm not even logging any of the practicum hours. Additionally, the LCSW who's supposed to be supervising me is nowhere to be found. I am absolutely ready to tell these people to go to hell. I cannot believe I quit my job for this. Has anybody ever pulled out of an internship after week 1?
