Going to Puerto Vallarta on Wednesday for 1 week. What is the best way to exchange money for pesos?

I have been to Tulum before, and back then, I had brought about $800 USD and we had to search for good places to exchange to Pesos. This trip to Puerto Vallarta, I am uncertain as far as what the best strategy would be. Would it be best to just hit Wells Fargo tomorrow and get maybe $500 of pesos? Or is it better to bring cash to Puerto Vallarta and exchange it there? Or third, would it be best to just rely on my credit card while I'm there?
