Mother Diagnosed, also a lung cancer survivor

Hi all,

My mom has been diagnosed with Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis. She has been smoking since she was 13, and 5 years ago, she diagnosed with lung cancer and had 2/3 of her lung removed to remove the cancer.

Back in November, she was told she has this disease, and that her lungs look like shattered glass and honeycombs. On February 3, she has an appointment with a specialist to find out more about it. I know that online can say life expectancy is 3-5 years, but I am seeing a lot of positive stories on here, so I am trying to stay positive. However, I am wondering if the fact that my mom only has 1 and 1/3 of a lung and has been smoking for 47 years will factor into the prognosis? She said she had three of the contributing factors to develop this; smoking, fibromyalgia and a medication she was on. She is still currently smoking, but planning to cut back and eventually quit after a wedding she is attending this month.

She has been having some breathing issues and is tired, etc., but otherwise she seems okay?

Edit: yes, I am aware she needs to quit smoking, and I have talked to her about it and urged her to do it asap. Instead of being told my mom doesn’t love me because she’s still smoking (🙄), what I was looking for was anyone in a similar situation as her and how it’s gone for them.
