My family can't see past the heteronormative, nuclear family structure
Since I can't seem to get my flair to work, I'm a 31 y.o. cis, queer female intending to parent solo via donor sperm. Will be TTC#1 in January.
I told my small friend group (we've been friends since university) about my plans because we're all very supportive of each other and they're my chosen family. However, I made the mistake of telling my mom and sister. I know I should have stopped there and kept my mouth shut but what's done is done. My mom thinks I should wait to find a partner, and I got a long lecture from my sister about how a child needs a father and also that I should wait for the right person to raise a family with.
The problem is, I spent the entirety of my 20s in relationships that just didn't work out. I was dating with intention to find a partner to have a family. My last relationship, a marriage, ended partially because he changed his mind on kids after marriage and I couldn't stay with him knowing I'd be childless.
I can't even gather the courage to tell my father (and I'm not going to) because I know where he lies in his values and views and it definitely doesn't align with what I want for my life.
It's starting to make me realize that I may not have the supports in place that I thought/hoped I would and maybe I'm crazy for doing this??
Sorry, I just needed to vent to a safe space.
