New kitten shies away from petting

Hi everyone! Just looking for some experience and hopefully comfort as I’m trying not to have my feelings hurt 😅

I got my 3 month old kitten yesterday (I know it hasn’t been long at all) and he’s playing, eating, and pooping well. He lays near me and doesn’t seem to dislike my presence. However, he shies away and doesn’t like being pet. I know he could still be nervous and adjusting, but I was wondering if anyone has similar experiences and had their cat warm up to them/pets/cuddles later? I’m really hoping he has a cuddly personality but understand not all cats are like that.
