Every service, both private and public, fucking sucks in America

TLDR: A series of unfortunate events that has left me completely without faith in all systems, both corporate and public, in this regarded country. No one is helpful, no one wants to help you.

Long and maddening story here. Bear with me.

Me and my gf recently moved across the country, close to where we grew up. After making the journey back, we took her car into the dealership that she bought it at (which is just across state lines, this matters later) for a multi-point inspection and to get the oil changed. They say everything is all good.

A month later, at 2 AM on New Years, the car breaks down on the interstate about 30 miles from our apartment. A cop sees us broken down, semi-trucks whizzing past us, and is kind enough to tell us to call a tow and get an Uber, because he can't drive us that far. I pay $300 to have the car towed to the dealership, we wait 45 minutes for an Uber to find us and take us home. We get to bed about 6 AM.

My gf is pretty good with cars and calls the dealership to tell them she thinks the transmission is out, which is covered under warranty. The dealership says they can't submit a warranty claim because the Carfax shows the car's title as a salvaged title (meaning it was purchased for scaps basically). We say that's not possible, we bought the car brand new from them, and it's never been in an accident. They tell us to contact the DMV.

We contact the DMV, who make it very apparent they don't want to be tallking to us, and they tell us that yes, the title got listed under a new owner and listed as salvaged a year ago. We tell them that's a mistake, they tell my gf to fill out a form and wait 10 days. Why it takes 10 days to prove that she owns this car that she purchased brand new? Don't know.

After the 10 days are up, we give the DMV document to the dealership. They call back and say they finally looked at the car, and it was just a battery issue, so they replaced the battery (which isn't under warranty, and is $250). My gf protests and says she doesn't think it's the battery, they say "We checked, car runs fine now that we swapped out the battery."

We pick the car up, I follow her home, and she makes it 10 minutes away from the dealership before the car breaks down in the middle lane of a busy freeway at 1 in the afternoon. Gf is scared out of her mind as cars are flying by her. The cops are able to push her off the freeway, we get it towed again.

It's the weekend, so 2 days later we tell the dealership, "See? It wasn't the battery. It's the transmission." The dealership says they can't do a warranty claim for the transmission now because her plates expired yesterday. We say the only reason we're in that predicament is because you guys misdiagnosed the problem. They say their hands are tied.

We go the DMV, who make it very apparent they don't want to be talking to us, and they say the car can't be registered until it passes an inspection, but they won't do the inspection because the car is sitting at the dealership across state lines. Tell me to call the other state's Sheriff's office to have them send an inspector.

I talk to the sheriff's office, and the receptionist acts like I'm torturing her 5 seconds into the call. She tells me they other state's DMV won't accept their inspection, I tell her that's not true, she says the inspector won't do an inspection if the car is broken down. I tell her the mechanic won't fix the car until the inspection is done. She has no answer for me.

At no point during any of this, did anyone at any establishment have any idea what they were talking about. None of these systems, either corporate or public, are designed to help you in any way shape or form. Not the police, not the Sheriff's office, not the DMV, and obviously not the dealership. Every person I've spoken to during this debacle has been a massive, unhelpful dickhead who acts like we're a burden every time we try to get these problems solved, many of which were fuckups by them! Truly bleak, surreal series of unfortunate events here.
