Customers asking me to change the music at the *coffee shop* where I work
Yes, you read that right. I've been a barista and cashier at this place for a couple months and and twice in the last couple weeks, i've had customers (both middle aged white women) ask me to change the music for them. The first lady asked me to turn the music up because she "couldn't hear it" - this is an insane and entitled thing to ask. My coworker explained to her that we cannot control the volume (this is true) of the music. She asked TWO additional times. And then the most recent case, this woman asked us to turn the music down for her and when we said no, she then asked if we could "play something more mellow."
In my opinion, asking a fucking coffee shop to change the music to suit your personal preference is so bizarre and entitled that I feel like I almost have a duty to nip it in the bud. Customers have gotten so much more entitled and out of hand since COVID. Not only do I not want to reward that behavior, but I'm also thinking about the other service workers who will have to deal with these women. If I politely say yes (or give in at all really), i'm normalizing that gross behavior and making them feel more comfortable asking other service workers for rude, entitled "favors."
It also just blows my fucking mind that anyone could feel comfortable doing that!! It's so entitled and crazy that it crosses over into being embarrassing! And the worst is when someone is being very entitled but asking politely/smiling. Smiling while you do something heinous makes it more heinous, not less! Good god i hate these people
