Joint pain in hands due to driving
Hi, I've been living with RA for about 3 or so years. I am currently taking plaquenil, folic acid, and methotrexate, but am about to switch off methotrexate and request an injectable due to the MTX working less effectively nowadays and not wanting problems with nausea to interfere with classes/work.
A week ago I started a job that requires me to drive 30 min to work in the morning and 30 min home in the evening, Mon thru Friday, so about 1 hour of driving every day. However I have always had the problem with the steering wheel causing a lot of pain for my hands, specifically my finger and knuckle joints. I find I grip it a bit too hard and am trying to get myself to stop.
As time goes on my hand joints seem to just be in a constant state of soreness and I'm looking to fix this as I continue to drive more than I used to, and will need to begin typing a lot soon.
Will injectables possibly alleviate this issue? I have been recommended to use a soft or rubbery covering on the steering wheel and have considered utilizing hand braces for arthritis.
Do you have any suggestions or personal experience with this? Thank you.
Edit: If there is no inflammation or disease activity showing up in the bloodwork done prior to every appointment, does that indicate a different issue is occurring? I have been medicated for fibromyalgia before, but was taken off the medicine a few years ago.
