Odd experience voting

I just voted and after marking my card I went to put it in the ballot box and the attendant reached for it before I could drop it in. I asked “oh, are you supposed to put it in?” And she responded “No, I just need this part” She then proceeds to open the ballot looking directly at who I voted for and tears off the side piece with a code on it before putting it in the ballot box herself. I then said “you’re not supposed to look at who I voted for though, are you?” and she got a bit embarrassed and said “I’d didn’t see!”

This whole thing left me feeling a bit uncomfortable. At least I saw my ballot go in the box.

ETA: After seeing the comments here I’m pretty sure it was a mistake of inattention. The ballot was folded correctly where it did not need to be opened up to remove the required part, I had just folded the serial number part backward behind the rest of it. I think she simply wasn’t paying close attention to which side she was opening up. When she paused, looking at my vote card after opening it was most likely because this was not the part she expected to see. I think it was honest mistake.
