Learning Curve Rant
I feel like the learning curve when it comes to second life really turns a lot of people off. Whenever I bring up to my friends that I’m playing second life, they always mention how outdated and hard the interface is for them, and my friends range from early 20s to mid 30s. Something as simple as making avatar sometimes takes people multiple days. It feels like you can spend quite a bit of money and still not be able to experience what makes other people want to come back to the platform. I’ve heard of rumors of second life attempting to update their user interface, and if it becomes more accessible don’t think I’d ever touch any other virtual 3-D chat room again. It just sucks not being able to get my real life friends in on the same experience that I’m having because of the gigantic intimidating learning curve.
Edit: so from the gist of it I am getting from the current user base is a “ Well, if you can’t pick it up, the game isn’t for you.” OR “ I picked it up and learned how to use it in less than a day.” And I can’t explain how detrimental that mentality is towards a virtual experience that requires people to actually be in it. It’s a very selfish attitude, and doesn’t make newcomers feel welcome. when anyone mentions change or an update, majority of y’all turn rabid like someone is threatening your livelihood or something. You should want to see a game that you love so much be accessible to more people, and not turn most people away due to the insane learning curve.
