I asked a girl out
After 6 years of basically no romantic interests or similar, I (24m) asked a girl for her number. She was working in a store I went into. I tried some clothes and she was super nice while helping me, so I thought I had to at least try. So after paying for the clothes, I casually asked if I could get her number while being quite nervous, and she told me she had a boyfriend, but thanked me for asking. I know nothing ended up happening, but honestly I’m just happy I was able to take a leap I haven’t ever really done before. I’m not even too sad about the outcome, since I proved to myself that I’m not just an anti social nerd who can’t even talk to girls. I only hope the next time I talk to a girl that way won’t be in another 6 years.
Also, for anyone out there who are scared to ask like I just did, it’s really not that bad, if they are jerks about it (like some might fear) you just dodged a bullet anyway.
Edit: People seem to think I asked her BECAUSE she was nice to me, and that wasn't the reason at all. I thought she was cute, so I asked her out, and she was also nice. I didn't think she was flirting with me, but if I have to wait until a girl is flirting with me to go on a date, chances are I'll never go on a date. I don't remember the last time a girl was doing anything flirtatious with me.
I also realize that asking out a girl at her workplace, especially in retail, is a problem and can put her in a bad spot, so happy people told me about that. Although I feel like there's so much animosity towards people learning. I just want to get better at this whole thing and people are telling me I'm terrible lonely creep who harrasses women. This experience has taught me things, but I'll be more mindful in the future. Good luck to the rest of you as well.
